A Voice of Hope: Bob’s Journey in Fighting Human Trafficking

When Bob and his wife, Traci, first learned about Rescue America, they were deeply moved by the mission to rescue survivors of sex trafficking. After praying for an opportunity to make a difference, they found themselves attending church one day when the concept of an outreach hub was introduced. It felt like a direct answer to their prayers, and without hesitation, they signed up.

Over the past year, Bob has been part of both the outreach hub and the hotline advocate team. What began as an overwhelming need to do something has transformed into a personal calling—a way to step in and be the hands and feet of God.

The Early Days: From Discouragement to Impact

Bob recalls the early days of his volunteer work, where enthusiasm was high but frustrations loomed. You don’t always know when you make calls at the Outreach Hubs, if you reach someone, because most of the time you get voicemail.

For Bob, it was discouraging at times, but he remained committed. The hotline work especially helped him realize the difference he was making.

“Out of 100 calls, if we get just two exits, it’s totally worth it. Zero calls mean zero exits.”

Breaking Down Barriers as a Male Volunteer

As one of the first men to volunteer for Rescue America, Bob never thought much about being a male in a field that typically involves female volunteers. “I honestly didn’t even think about being a guy and volunteering. When they said they didn’t have any men, a light bulb went off,” he laughed. “They wanted to add men volunteers, and I stepped up.”

Today, Bob is part of a growing group of male volunteers who meet every Friday to pray, support each other, and share their experiences. The group’s mission is clear: to stop the demand for sex trafficking. “From a guy’s perspective, we are part of the problem here, and we have to help. Long term, we want to get out there and stop the demand for trafficking.”

A Call That Came Full Circle

One moment that stands out in Bob’s memory is a recent call he received on the hotline. “I got a call from a woman who said, ‘I’m just calling you back.’ I wasn’t even signed in yet, and she was already on the line. Turns out, she had received a message from an outreach hub and was ready to exit the life.

Bob explained how God had been preparing this woman’s heart for a month before she made the call. “She told me, ‘A month ago, I wasn’t ready, but now I am.’ That’s just a testament to the work we’re doing and what God is doing through us. At first, I thought she was just looking for a place to stay, but no, she was serious. God had worked in her heart.”

These moments of clarity, where Bob knows without a doubt that lives are being changed, keep him going. Despite the tough calls and challenges, the impact is undeniable.

Iron Sharpens Iron

Being part of Rescue America’s men’s group has been a source of strength for Bob. “We meet every other Friday on Zoom, and it’s such a powerful group. We share, we pray, and we talk about what’s tugging at our hearts. It’s a place for us to encourage each other as men and as leaders in our homes and communities.”

What started as a few men volunteering has grown into a strong network of men from across the country, all working together to support survivors and bring an end to trafficking. Through guest speakers, shared stories, and encouragement, the men’s group has become an integral part of Bob’s journey, both as a volunteer and as a man of faith.

Focus on the Prize, Not the Price

For Bob, the work is about more than just volunteering—it’s about answering God’s call to make a difference. “At the end of the day, people just want help. If I take my mind off myself and focus on them, who cares who is answering the phone? It’s the work we are doing that matters. Focus on the prize, not the price.”

With a growing community of male volunteers, Bob and others like him are breaking down barriers and showing that everyone has a role to play in the fight against human trafficking. Together, they are answering the call—and making a difference one phone call at a time.
