What Does it Mean to be a Rescuer?

Do you have the desire to give hope to the hurting? To show love to the brokenhearted? Do you want to make a tangible difference in the life of a survivor coming out of the darkness of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation? That is what being a Rescuer is all about.

Rescuers financially invest in a survivor’s freedom with a monthly gift of $25 or a single gift of $300. When a survivor calls our Rescue hotline and is ready to exit the life, it’s these investments that empower her to do so. A Rescuer’s investment ensures that she has transportation to take her to safety, that she has a warm meal after potentially not eating for days prior, and that she can be provided with new clothes and luggage as she begins her journey to new life.

In addition to providing for her immediate needs, Rescuers give survivors hope. After being exploited and feeling unworthy, they experience true care and the knowledge that there are people who desire to encourage their bravery and empower them to heal and thrive in their futures.

This is what Kiara* experienced through her exit process. Kiara had tried to run away from her trafficker before, but she was caught and brought back. Her trafficker abused her, forced her to sleep in a truck, and withheld food and water from her for days at a time. When she finally had the chance to call for help, she bravely took it.

Sitting alone in her hotel room, staring out the window and watching for when her trafficker would return, she called our Rescue hotline.

Kiara told our team that she wanted help getting out of the life for good, and she hoped to begin a long-term care program. Our Exit Strategists were able to quickly find her placement with one of our Preferred Partners, and Kiara was so excited about the opportunity. After a hospital visit, our team facilitated her safe transportation to a secure location where she could rest until heading to her program out of town. While she waited, she was  visited by an Exit Companion and provided with essentials like food and new clothing thanks to a Rescuer who invested in her freedom.

As she expressed some fears and anxieties along the way, our Exit Strategists covered her in prayers and encouraged her that the hardest part was over.

After this, Kiara shared, “I actually feel good, like there really is hope. Just the fact that you’re praying for me and helping me, nobody’s ever made me feel like I was worth that before.”

Kiara is free from sexual exploitation and trafficking and is living with a newfound hope because of people like you. That is what it means to be a Rescuer - to show the tangible love of God to a survivor who has only known exploitation and abuse, taking what you’ve been given and using it to help them experience a hope they may have never felt before.

We are so grateful for our Rescuers who make a difference in the lives of survivors across America, and we invite you to join the army! Be the reason a survivor experiences hope and learns she is worthy of freedom by becoming a Rescuer today.
